An hour before the race starts, the hill car race teams were busily preparing for the race at the pits on top of the Tähtitorninmäki. And yes, that "Robinson Crusoe island" is indeed a hill car, but don't ask me how it was steered... :)

... while some others were just fantastical contraptions... :) I think the ladybug won the whole race in the end.

Why do race drivers get all the girls?!? :)

As you can imagine, the whole racing event was very much tongue-in-cheek. This was the first event of it's type in Scandinavia and by the looks of it, it was a great success; great weather, great shows, a lot of spectators and a lot of fun for both the racing teams and the spectators.

The judges were evaluating the racing teams not only on their racing speed, but also on showmanship and visual design! So even if you were the fastest, that wouldn't have guaranteed you a win... Here's one team practising taxiing their "flying car" around the pits...

The "Amalgam" team put on a good show with the victim sitting in the racing car ("dentist's chair") while the others were drilling him to bits. The guy on the front is the "tooth bug" causing cavities in your teeth with the candy... :)

Team "LIMUsiini" is the first in line to start the race off... I liked the wordplay on the name, but notice also the telemetry monitor in front of the driver as well as the driver's aerodynamic helmet... :)
